Whilst volumes have been steady throughout the week, activity has been somewhat varied with the market attempting to regain focus from the buoyancy it’s seen in recent weeks. Bid levels continue to be strong with growth of 2%, up to £3.87 million, during the week. However bidders are holding firm on their existing prices with sellers appearing to do the same. Sensing an increase in demand, the latter is riding the current wave of optimism in the market place and hesitating to reduce prices. The result has been a mixture of stand offs with both parties waiting to see who folds first. An impasse has been reached!
Total positions grew to £5.85 million through the week with some great new cellars loaded into portfolios and posted live. Rarities such as La Fleur Petrus 1964 in pristine condition at £3,100, magnums of Latour a Pomerol 1978 at £1,200 (3), Comte de Vogue Bonnes Mares 1988 at £1,900 (6) and a very rare Regis Forey Vosne Romanee Les Gaudichots 1995 at £1,300 (6). We’re sure you’ll agree these are a unique a collection of wines and not ones you come across everyday. Condition photos are posted live so do take a look at these rarities even if out of curiosity only.
Trading activity during the week saw more rises than falls with strong trades for stellar Bordeaux vintages from 1995,1996, 2000, 2005 and 2009. Most noticeable was that the majority of trades were for big names outside of First Growths. As always, you can click the link below to view most recent trades.
Biggest fall went to Lafite 2009 trading at £2,975 per 6, down a further 2.4% since June. Steady climbs went to Cos d’Estournel 2005, up 7.5% since July to £1,150, Haut Brion 2006, up 4.5% since early September to £2,300 and Leoville Barton 2005, up 8.3% in 24 hours trading at £650. Mouton Rothschild 2008 also saw renewed interest, trading at £2,790 for an 8 cases parcel, up 3.3% since August.
Alongside some rarities, there are other modern gems on offer this week such as Petrus 1990, Screaming Eagle in multiple vintages and Vogue’s Musigny 2011 at £300 under market. Just be sure to click the new stock lists below to see all the week’s latest additions which are highlighted.
