Earlier this evening Robert Parker revealed his scores for the Bordeaux 2012 vintage. These have been eagerly awaited due to the early wine releases from some of the First Growth Chateaux and other iconic labels. Collectors so far, appear not to have been chomping at the bit with the prices on early releases, unless accompanied by a significant price drop.
First impressions on the scores make it appear that Parker deems this vintage without doubt to be a mixed bag and one that favours the Right Bank in his eyes with only Eglise Clinet having the potential of the perfect 100 point score for a red at (96-100). Sterling scores for Trotanoy (96-98), Petrus (95-98+), Ausone (95-97) also cement the Right Bank as the clear leader.
There are good reviews for Haut Brion Blanc (98-100) and La Mission Haut Brion Blanc (96-98+). Mouton Rothschild is the highest scoring First Growth at (95-97), Haut Brion (93-95), Lafite (92-95 )with Latour and Margaux both at (92-94).
Chateaux that may be disappointed in the opening scores, Leoville Poyferre (89-91), Grand Puy Lacoste (87-89), Lynch Bages (87-89), Langoa Barton (86-88).
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the Bordeaux campaign pans out now with the release prices yet to come. One thing certain from the collectors point of view is that prices will have to be significantly lower if they are to part with their cash for two years.
