Another morning sees a flurry of Bordeaux 2012 releases for the trade and collectors to sift through en masse. Pavie Macquin appears to be the most interesting so far, with a release price of £380 ex London (92-95)pts RP, but will it be enough to tempt buyers. The quality is certainly there this year with it being one of the top picks on the right bank.
Chateau Beychevelle have reduced their price by 10% on the 2011 release and price wise ex London at £450 (89-91) pts RP this makes it the cheapest available vintage. Most vintages of Beychevelle are now priced over £600 with the exception of 2008 and 2011 all scoring in the 87-89 pts range. Could be interesting when the “in bottle” scores come out.
Xavier Borie has released Grand Puy Lacoste at 19% lower than his 2011, but initial reactions make it appear to be a bit of a damp squib at £345 (87-89) pts RP. With 2004 and 2006 similary priced on the secondary market, buyers may be looking backwards for their case of GPL this year.
Haut Batailley (85-87) pts RP has also released at £240 ex London, which although always offering good drinking does not appear to have picked up solid reviews this year in a difficult vintage for them.
Prices in bold are available on the Cavex platform and prices lowest in the UK market.
