Despite some small signs of growth in respect to bidding activity on the Cavex platform this week, the trend of softening prices continues further. There were certainly a few eyebrows twitching when Lafite Rothschild 2009 traded at £6,100 per dozen for the first time. With the next best bid at £5,900, could we be seeing a sub £6k price in the coming week? The premium for Chateau Lafite is unquestionably continuing to wane at a pace.
Overall market value grew by just over 1% during the course of the week with £277,000 worth of new positions placed. Buyers are currently on the look out for good quantities of Bordeaux priced around the £350 to £750 mark for names such as Calon Segur, Clerc Milon, Duhart Milon, Grand Puy Lacoste, Pavillon Rouge and Petit Mouton across a multitude of vintages. Do get in touch at trading@cavex.co.uk if you have stock you would like to offer.
Notable trades from the last week saw a big climb for Angelus 2006 up 15% from April, trading at £1,840 per 12. Grand Puy Lacoste 2006 also had a solid 6.7% rise since January with a six case parcel matching at £320. Demand for Chateau Latour has also seen a small rise over these last few days with multiple vintage bids appearing and the 2002 trading up 2.2% to £3,300 per 12. Down 9.4% since this time last year, Mouton Rothschild 1996 suffered the biggest fall of the week trading at £3,080 per 12.
Another big name showing signs of recent decline is Pontet Canet with the 100 pointer 2009 trading frequently from a year high of £1,490 down 5.8% to £1,385 as sellers tried to find willing buyers throughout June. With this Chateau riding the crest of a wave for the past few years as a result of thoroughly warranted scores, has the high release price of the 2013 vintage soured interest slightly? Or is it simply a case of wider market forces taking effect?
This week’s new offers have seen a wonderful private collection added with a range of Bordeaux and Burgundy greats available at incredibly good prices. Regular visitors to the Cavex platform have already picked up a few deals, but with more names introduced in the last 24 hours, there are now some very well priced DRC wines such as La Tache 2005 at £7,500 per 3 x 75 and the 2004 at £6,800 per 6 x 75. These sit alongside a nice little parcel of Hosanna with the 96 point 2000 vintage offered at £650 per 6 and the 93 point 2001 at £350 per 6. Both will be drinking perfectly now and it’s a great opportunity to pick up mature stock from such a small production Chateau.
