Bidding activity has declined during the past week with overall positions and total bid value dropping by an equal 3%. The general market appears to be quietening slightly, perhaps taking a breath whilst Asia starts its New Year Festivities this week. Optimism has reigned the last two months but with Asian demand fading, the market is hoping a short break in purchasing is indeed just that.
In terms of movements on the trading ticker this week, there were far more notable red percentage declines than green increases with Bordeaux First Growths showing more dips than most. Lafite 1999 taking the largest fall of the week trading at £4,700 down 6.9% since May 2014. Older vintage Bordeaux does appear to be sparking an interest with multiple bids for pre 2000 stocks. Trades for Lafite 1996 at £6,650 is up 0.8% since December alongside Margaux 1996 at £3,950 which is up 3.8% since November. Is this the mark of a vintage pointing towards a recovery drive?
Following last week’s Burgundy highlights, it was a pleasure to see some well-priced offers matched. With so many great red and whites on offer from the region its worth filtering the trading page to view the numerous deals available and many two way markets to be set.
The bid to offer ratio has tightened slightly this week to 2.23:1 although £170,000 of new bids have been placed. We are on the look-out for more cellar collections which would be uploaded free of charge to your portfolio. If you wish to submit your own holdings, please do so via the import tab in your account page or alternatively email the spreadsheet to trading@cavex.co.uk. With £4 million in bids currently open, there are many opportunities all just waiting for the right offers to be made.
