Chapoutier Ermitage Vin de Paille 2010, White Burgundy Parcels. Is now the time to place bids?

Despite quiet trading at the start of the week, we have hit the weekend with an increase in activity. The bears were out in their ever gloomy mood seven days ago with bids dropping at a rapid rate and positions sliding 14% in total bid value. However, with new and more interesting offers placed, activity promptly picked up as the week came to an end.

Total value of overall positions dropped by 7% during the week, falling below the £4million mark for the first time since early April. Buyers have certainly been protecting themselves as sellers matched well priced bids where they could. Nevertheless, we have seen some very keenly priced wines appearing with particular focus on Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. Some great parcels of White Burgundies from Fontaine Gagnard 2008 to 2010 and Henri Boillot 2009 and 2010′s stock were also placed for sale this week. Pricing on these measure up fairly to the UK market’s existing stock so worth a bid if you are looking for some summer Bourgogne Blanc or Village and Premier Cru Pulignys’. There is also an opportunity to pick up 2 cases of Michel Chapoutier’s last ever vintage of Vin de Paille 2010 at £365 per 3 x 37.5. With 100 points from Parker and a life span of 100 years, this is a rare gem to keep hold of.

Guigal La La’s have exchanged hands for a trio of the 2009′s at a very reasonable price of £910 per 6 x 75 case. Clos St Jean’s Deus Ex Machina 2010 also sold for £1,115 per 6 representing another great deal for a 100 pointer. The 98 Point Combe des Fous Clos St Jean 2010 is up for offer at £600 per six.

After last week’s lull in the Fine Wine market, it seems the strong direction needed is perhaps starting to take shape with offer prices dropping in all corners. This even includes Tesco who are about to drop the price of their Fine Wine stocks by 15% across the board as they make way for new stocks coming in. With some sellers keen to offer more attractive deals than the previous week, it’s worth placing that speculative bid if you are a buyer. At Cavex we are here to aid sellers in achieving a better return by offering lower commissions. As a buyer perhaps now is the time to get those bids up as prices become more appealing.

Using the fully automated notification system on all your live bid prices, you can stay in touch with your positions as they develop and opposing offers are amended. The ‘My Market’ function on the trading screen allows you to quick sort your live positions, watch lists and is a tool that members are finding increasingly useful.

Should you have any queries regarding elements of the Cavex platform and how best to use the functions available, please do get in touch by either calling us on +44 (0) 1491 576 300 or emailing us at info@cavex.co.uk. The team would be very happy to assist you.
