Bordeaux First Growths took the trading driving seat this past week on the Cavex platform as sellers looking to dispose met willing bidders, particularly in Asia. First Growths were responsible for 85% of value traded last week which is a marked difference to recent months and since Cavex launched over a year ago.
As a result of this high value and volume trading, the total bid value has dropped slightly this week with new sellers bartering and matching existing bidders. Total overall position value dropped back to £3.75 million although £222,000 new positions have been added over the last ten days. The market in general is still appearing bearish with the bid to offer ratio slipping down to 0.85:1.
Notable trades of the week came in the form of the most consistent faller Chateau Haut Brion with the 2004 trading at £2,300, down 3.8% since mid April and the 2008 matching at £2,450, down 5.8% since December 2013. Biggest fall of the week came from Chateau Latour 1996 down 10.1% since February this year trading at £4,650.
The 2008 Bordeaux vintage appeared to be in favour with a significant volume of cases trading from all of the First Growths apart from Chateau Latour. Beychevelle 08, Cos d”Estournel 08 and Forts de Latour 08 were also highlights of the week, trading flat or slightly above their previous values over the past months.

Remember though, it’s not all about the big named Bordeaux wines. The Cavex platform is an exchange that will facilitate any wines which are stored In Bond and immediately available in the UK. Private collectors are increasingly picking up bargains and excess to requirement stock at great prices through Cavex. With just over 200 wines all priced under £300 per case, it’s worth clicking the current bids and offers lists below to see what’s available. There are deals to be made with some great wines waiting to be snapped up.
