As Chateaux owners ponder their pricing strategies for EP 14, it’s been encouraging to see available back vintages trading strongly. 87% of all of wines traded through the week posted an increase from their previous prices. A figure not seen since early January and against the run of play over the past three months.
With Chateau Haut Brion’s deputy MD Jean-Philppe Delmas stating that release prices will appear within the next two weeks, it appears buyers have been reacting to statements from various Chateaux owners that prices may not fall as much as requested. Though what would happen if prices rise? Surely it’s just a question of economics for most buyers? We certainly believe this and whilst a there’s an opportunity to pick up better priced physical vintages, it seems our members feel the same way.
As for the Cavex market, it grew overall by 3.42% with £471,000 of new positions placed and 170 new cases up for sale. There are now a total of 2336 cases on offer so plenty of stock immediately available priced from as low as £15 per dozen IB UK. Do view all the latest offers alongside the entire stock list on the below links.
Trade highlights of the week:
- Biggest Climber – Pichon Lalande 2001 12 x 75 at £850 + 21.4% since
- Leoville Barton 2006 12 x 75 at £440 + 8.6% since
- Pavillon Rouge 2006 12 x 75 at £950 + 4.4% since 12/12/14
- Biggest Faller – Forts de Latour 2006 12 x 75 at £1,100 – 18.5% since 23/12/13
- Duhart Milon 2008 12 x 75 at £470 – 10.5% since 02/12/14
- Smith Haut Lafitte 2009 12 x 75 at £1,200 – 9.1% since 26/08/14
Buyers this week are on the look-out for First Growths at slightly raised pricing which is encouraging for the market. In particular there is strong demand for Mouton Rothschild alongside Haut Brion and Chateau Margaux. Sassicaia also features heavily across multiple vintages. If you’re in a position to offer stocks, please do get in contact or email trading@cavex.co.uk
Sellers this week have some great parcels available such as Cos 2006, Duhart Milon 2009, Grand Puy Lacoste 2006 and the 94 point Le Serre Nuove 2011 at £135 per 6. Certainly worth taking a look at all these offers a little more closely if the first EP 14 release shows even a 1% rise…
