The Fine Wine market this past week has seen many new releases of Bordeaux 2013 En Primeur, with most appearing to have been met with very flat reception from merchants and collectors alike. Following on from Lynch Bages’ release last week, Lafite and Mouton Rothschild have stimulated the market a little with slight reductions in price of 10% and 14% respectively. But has this sparked enough interest with collectors? As a result of these releases, a clear trend has emerged at Cavex this week demonstrating a significant rise in trade for back vintages of First Growths.
Mouton Rothschild continues to take top spot for trade, with highlights being the 2000 at £10,250 (12), 2006 at £3,220 (12) and the 2008 trading at £3,000. Lafite followed closely behind with trades of the 2005 at £6,270 (12), the 2008 at £5,300 and the 2009 at £3,225 per six. With high release prices for the 2013 vintage, are long term collectors considering trophy vintages with their fall in value over the past few years thinking it may well be the time to stock up on big names while prices are at a two year low?
Overall positions on the Cavex platform fell by 3.6% during the week with bidders reducing their exposure slightly as the Easter break approaches, whereas total offers grew by 3.1% up to £1.92 million. The bid to offer ratio has tightened somewhat to 1.15:1, down from the high 1.35:1 at the beginning of April. Although the total value of positions has dropped slightly, it has been interesting to see the total active markets grow to more than 1,300 spread over 4,000 cases.
Hot stock highlights have not all been focused on Bordeaux with an interesting array of Burgundy Red and Whites placed for sale. The most keenly priced offers are listed below in this week’s Hot Offers alongside some very well priced First Growths. Worth a look over Easter, the full listings can be found on the following excel and pdf links below as usual.
