After the mixed trading patterns from two weeks ago, the last seven days on Cavex has all been about the Rothschild name. Having watched the bids grow for Lafite Rothschild the previous week, it has been a strong period for trades with multiple vintages changing hands. The trend remains one of slight softening of price with the 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006 all trading down slightly over the course of the week. Only 2004 had a small gain of 0.1% trading twice in four days.
We have also seen activity in Carruades de Lafite with the 2010 vintage taking a tumble of 5.6% since January, trading at £1,440 per 12. Bids for both the grand vin and the second wine are still strong at their last traded values. A question to ask is have we now found the price level for Lafite and its stable?
Not to be left out, Mouton Rothschild has been actively traded throughout the week with the 2004, 2007 and 2008 all exchanging. Demand for the 2008 at £3,000 is still strong with buyers confidently taking stock at this new level. Petit Mouton has also returned to trading with the 2009 matching at £535 per 6, up 1.9% since February.
Buyers do appear to be gaining confidence as the bid to offer ratio continues to rise, now up to 1.06:1. The total bid value amounts to £1.87million, spread over 1,593 cases with a return to growth of 1.2% from the previous week.
Other notable trades from the week came from the continued rise of Leoville Poyferre 2009 that is quietly gaining momentum in the background with yet another increase of 1.8%, trading regularly since early February. Conseillante 2009 likewise traded at £1,300 per 12, alongside Pavie 2000 at £4,320 per 12 showing demand is still present for big name right bank wines.
We have kept this week’s highlights to the Hot Stocks because there are some very keenly priced offers up for grabs. These are so well priced that we don’t wish to muddy the waters. As expected, Lafite and Mouton Rothschild indeed feature. There are some great drinking parcels such as Clos des Papes 2004 at £375 per 12, d’Arenberg’s Coppermine Road 2001 at £100 per 6. Also one to lay down for the future is Grand Veneur’s CNDP 2010 at £95 IB per 6, which at 93pts from the Wine Advocate seems incredibly good value.
